Categories

  1. Documentary – This is a production that is based on actuality, present facts or some history. Has been researched, scripted and edited, Could have interviews or a presenter and should educate, inform and entertain. The images and audio should be complementary to the story.
  2. Drama - Movies in the Drama Category should show the creative world of visual narrative. An effective drama should have a "hook" to capture the audience and a good story line. The script should supply Important characters with a motivation or a goal to justify their actions. There should be conflicts, confrontations and obstacles for the protagonists to overcome. In conclusion, there should be a resolution to the conflict that may or may not be happy or predictable. (NB. Drama does not necessarily mean, "action packed thriller'. It could be a comedy, a satire or even a monologue. It's up to you.)
  3. Real Time Event This would cover People & Places, Holiday, Travel, Birthday / Christmas parties, car rallies, tramping and bush walks, stage and public performances. Anything that occurs in real time without prior scripting. Editing is mainly to compress time rather than to change the order of events.
NOTE. - Most of these could easily become documentaries if they educate, inform, present facts and some history. (See Item 1)
  4. General - This is a "catch-all" category and only movies that do not easily fit into the other major categories should be entered in this section. Entrants who wish to enter their videos in this category may find that, with some "fine tuning", their movie can be placed into one of the major categories (1 to 3).
  5. Novice This is a single category covering all the above categories (1-4) just for the Novices. A novice is deemed to be a member of the Auckland MovieMakers Inc., who has not previously received an award in an Auckland Video Camera Club or Auckland MovieMakers Inc. Annual Awards.
