Nelson Amateur Movie and Video Club

The Nelson Amateur Movie and Video Club was formed in October 1953 when it was known as the Nelson Cine Club. It has been meeting since then and changed its name to include the new video format in 1987.  The Club caters for amateurs interested in film-making and video-making.

When do we meet ?

The Club meets on the first Tuesday of each month, February through to December. Club meetings are held in the Community Rooms on the corner of Waimea Road and Quarantine Road, commencing at 7.30 pm.

The Club aims to help film and videomaker improve their productions by providing a forum for the discussion of all aspects of video making, from story to  storyboarding, to filming, to sound recording, to editing and making a finished tape or digital recording.

What do we do ?

The Club invites speakers to cover topics of film and video making on subjects such as camera techniques, editing techniques and tricks, the use of computers, sound production, recording media and so on.

The Club also encourages members to show their finished videos so as to get advice on the success or otherwise of their work.

The Club runs five or six video competitions each year and awards cups at the end of the year for the winning productions.

The Club aims to produce at least one cooperative video production per year involving most members.

The Club maintains contact with the other amateur video clubs in New Zealand and takes part in joint competitions and events such as the annual South Island Get-Together.

The Club produces two or three newsletters each year.

The club owns an 8mm projector, a video recorder, a DVD player and shares a Television and a computer with a video editing suite, though most members do have their own equipment.

What does it cost ?

The AGM is held during the April monthly meeting. Annual subscription $20 single, $25 double.
